I visited a customer that particular day, around 2007 or 2008. She sold cement and was prominent among the distributors in the city. While discussing with her, I noticed she had a prayer book produced by Mountain of Fire and Miracles. I opened the book and saw a few prayer points I really liked. When my customer noticed that I was fascinated by the book, she gave it to me and said she would get another copy.
I got home that night and went straight to my room with the prayer book. I kept turning to a particular prayer point about buying and selling at night markets. The more I tried to move to other pages, the more I kept coming back to this particular prayer point. I prayed vigorously, and my wife joined me at a point. Even after we ate that night, I returned to our room and continued praying about night markets where destinies are exchanged and cancelling negative transactions. We eventually slept off.
I was woken up by a gunshot and a shout of, “Who are you?” That was around 2 am. Then came another gunshot. I was scared, and my wife was also awake. Thinking we had armed robbers in the compound, we both crawled from our room to the living room, where we met my sister-in-law also lying on the floor. She had left her room as well. She was staying with us at the time.
My sister-in-law was shaking like a leaf. “I saw it,” she said. “You saw what?” I asked her. She whispered that she had seen a creature that looked feminine, staring at her from the window of her room. The weather was hot, and she had parted the blinds to allow some fresh air into her room. She said she woke up suddenly with her hair crawling, and when she opened her eyes, a creature was staring at her from her window. She was transfixed with fear until she heard a gunshot, after which she ran to the living room.
The supernatural points directly to the fact that there is more to what we see or know. Share on XThere was another gunshot. This time, I heard the voice of my neighbour, a Customs Officer, very clearly. He was the one firing the gunshots and asking whoever was in the compound questions. The Customs Officer lived in the Boys’ Quarters with his family and had been on patrol along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that night. His wife had come out of their room to use the bathroom when she saw the same creature my sister-in-law had seen. She ran back inside and called her husband. Thinking there were robbers in the house, her husband came out stealthily. After seeing the creature peeping into my sister-in-law’s window, he fired gunshots.
After a while, I heard a thud. My neighbour had jumped the fence, and there was a chase around my flat. I could see the shadows of both of them running around—the compound was well lit. After some time, the Customs Officer caught the creature. Its hair was plaited with wool and stood on its head, and it had on a very filthy wrapper. It had a huge sore on its leg and carried a ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag.
My neighbour, still thinking there could be many of them, grabbed the creature, beat it and asked, “Where are the others?” Till today, I cringe when I remember the sound of that creature and how it spoke. Its voice was so ethereal and sounded like something from horror movies. It spoke in smattering Yoruba that sounded a bit like someone from one of the neighbouring Yoruba-speaking countries.
To my shock, when it was asked what it was doing in our compound, it answered in Yoruba, “Mo wa ra’ja ni”, meaning, “I came to the market to buy some things”. My neighbour kept asking whether our house looked like a market, but it kept insisting that it had come to the market to buy some things. I instantly remembered the prayer point I had prayed over and over just a few hours earlier, and I shuddered. In its ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag were filthy bundles of N5, N10 and N20 notes. The notes were very filthy and smelly.
Your explanation or reasoning does not reduce the validity of the supernatural. Rather, it questions your very limited understanding and awareness. Share on XI heard the entire conversation from where I was lying on the floor in my living room. My wife and sister-in-law are my witnesses. We couldn’t go out because we were enveloped in fear that night. My neighbour flogged the creature continuously. When it was around 5 am, the creature started begging, saying that daybreak was approaching and it had to leave. It was pleading to be let go.
Not seeing any reason to hold on to it any longer, my neighbour took its wrapper and the Ghana Must Go bag containing the money. After another round of flogging, he released the creature. I later came out after the creature had left. Together with my neighbour, we burnt the wrapper and the bag containing the money. I couldn’t share the earlier details with my neighbour because I doubted whether he would understand. He kept wondering how the creature had gained access to our house, as the fence was high and our gates were always locked. He also couldn’t understand the ‘market’ talk.
I have so many experiences of the supernatural or the miraculous to share. I have experienced angelic assistance. I have seen God intervene many times in response to my earnest prayers to Him. I have escaped robbers’ bullets twice. One incident was point-blank, but the gun jammed. I’ve often shared this experience and others with a few people to explain that the supernatural is real, whether you believe it or not. There are things happening way beyond your logic or human reasoning.
